Industrial Sites of the Mono Basin![]()
One of the most valuable aspects of the Mono Basin is quiet, solitude, and dark skies. These things go hand in hand. They must be preserved. They are essential to preserving our sanity, our wildlife, our quality of life, and our resources. Industrial development, when not clustered together, destroys these qualities.
I began thinking of this project as a coffee-table book a few years ago. I would take pictures of some big industrial development, and then realize how few people were aware that these hidden industries exist. Also, the look of something industrial in the scenic Mono Basin was an oxymoron worth exploring. I began trying to capture in images the juxtaposition of an industrial site with a jaw-dropping scenic vista. Some of these images follow. The purpose? To raise awareness of what is really out there. It is more than just pretty scenery, folks.
